THE BOOK OF DAMN
YANKEES
OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE BOOK OF MANIFEST DESTINY
The Yanks tidy up after the warRoosevelt’s name is not on ballot
Chapter 129
Things weren’t going quite as well for wPresident Truman, though,
2Because it was time for another presidential election,
3Which happens about every four years,
4Whether anyone is paying attention or not,
5Although the Yanks were paying attention this time,
6Because they didn’t know what they were going to do when they walked into a voting booth and saw,
7For the first time in their lives,
8aThat Roosevelt’s name wasn’t on the ballot.
9Some of the Yanks thought that the Democrats had been in office long enough,
10bBecause everybody was equal by now, weren’t they,
11cAnd just how average should a president be anyway?
12dOn the other hand, there were Yanks who thought that Truman was pretty darned honest and great for being so average,
13eAnd just look at how decisive he was.
14So Truman got on a ftrain,
15And rode through every small town in the whole country,
16gTo explain to the people why he should be elected president,
17Which had to do with the fact that his opponent was a no-good New York sharpie,
18hWho was a lawyer,
19iAnd articulate,
20And so far above average,
21jThat he couldn’t be trusted,
22kBy any right-thinking Yank.
