The Banquet in PhiladelphiaThe Rocks of Consolation
Chapter 70
Later that same day, Harry and his followers returned to the hotel,
Where they were met by an dAngel,
Who spoke to Harry in secret,
And then departed with great urgency.
The followers were concerned and said, “Is something wrong? The look on the Angel’s face was dark and fills us with foreboding.”
But Harry said to them, Do not think about it.
It does not matter.
Let us have dinner in a private room in the ebest restaurant in town.
And so they engaged a private room,
And Harry sat down to eat with the twelve,
fWho grew merry as the evening progressed,
Until the restaurant echoed with their laughter and loud voices.
But at length, Harry became serious,
And said to the followers, There’s a gchance we may not be together much longer,
hSo I would like to take this opportunity to give you something to remember me by,
iSomething that will help you follow my way more easily.
aAnd the followers became downhearted,
bBut Harry called for the waiter,
cAnd whispered some instructions,
dWhich were swiftly obeyed,
eSo that in a few minutes’ time the waiter returned to give Harry a razor blade and a small mirror,
fUpon which he place some small white rocks,
gThen cut them into little pieces with the razor blade,
hArranging them into straight lines on the mirror.
iAs the followers looked on in puzzlement, Harry rolled up a hundred-dollar bill and placed it against one of the lines on the mirror, and inhaled the entire line through the bill.
jWhen he had done so, he leaned back in his chair, saying, Wow. That is some outstanding excrement.
