WAYS Chapter 30

The Way of the Yanks
Chapter 30
The Way of the Yanks was union,
Before union meant a faction,
And they kept on making movies,
And trying hard to do it right.
They fought a lot,
And did things wrong,
And left a million miles of footage on the floor.
But they built on their genius for compromise,
And settled their differences time after time,
So that dreams could keep moving on out the door.
Their pictures made money,
And fattened their wallets,
Till their rivals felt envy,
And laughed at their zest.
But the Yanks loved success,
And gloried in winning,
Sure of their talent,
For fairy tale endings.
They knew the hero gets the girl,
And the bad guy always gets shot,
And no sin is ever left unavenged,
If the writer’s on top of the plot.
That’s why they finally took on the challenge,
Of showing the world the American Way,
In a foreign film,
Called world war one,
And a sequel called world war too.
But this time they ended with special effects,
That almost devoured the screen,
And frightened the audience half to death,
Not to mention the studio team.
For they started to wonder,
And doubt, and fear,
The rule they had taken for granted:
That happy endings would always be there,
If you did the work for what you wanted.
