SWARTHMORONS Chapter 13

The path of art for art’s sake
Chapter 13
The path called art for art’s sake should appeal to many of you,
Because in many ways it is the easiest path there is.
For the truly artistic writer can have an immense amount of fun,
fAs long as she never smiles in public,
And never explains himself,
At all.
The artistic writer has many opportunities and advantages,
Even if the pay is sometimes meager,
But you must remember that lack of gwealth is not a contradiction with the Way of Harry,
hBecause there are no contradictions.
In spite of meager pay, the artistic writer can garner lots of respect and acclaim,
iFrom the people who count,
Without having to earn it.
He can appear to be a great shining genius,
Without ever creating anything new.
She can write about absolutely jnothing,
Without having given it much thought,
kAnd still seem to be saying something really worthwhile.
