THE
RATIONALIZATIONS
OF DAVID THE DAD
A lot of clichés
Chapter 8
But it always seemed to me that my father knew a lot,
2Even though he went through most of the depression without a dime in his pocket,
3And never did turn out to be a real big success,
4Except that I loved him,
5And wanted him to be proud of me,
6Because I always thought that if he were proud of me,
7I would really be something.
8As it turned out, though, I must not have been something,
9Because my sons never cared if I was proud of them,
10And I guess maybe I never really was,
11Since they always had it pretty easy,
12And the first time things started to get tough,
13aThey quit cold,
14Just like that.
