Jesus is fading from the scene
Chapter 16
And even though I’m kind of embarrassed to admit it,
2I’ve been thinking about Jesus a lot too,
3Which I never thought I’d do,
4Because he’s gotten kind of paler over the years,
5dLike he’s gradually fading from the scene somehow,
6Just like me,
7And you only hear his name when an eorderly stubs a toe on the food cart,
8fOr when someone switches the TV on on a Sunday morning,
9Which some of the other antiques seem to enjoy,
10But doesn’t really have anything to do with my memories,
11Which have to do with the smell of honeysuckle drifting into the smell of velvet and wax through an open stained-glass window,
12gWhile the choir sings something,
13Maybe not completely on key,
14But beautiful anyway,
15Because Jesus was listening,
16And understood how it was.
