The wisdom of adages
Psaying 5A
A is for Adages that can help you live better,
And more wisely too,
Because there’s a lot of wisdom in old adages like the ones I live by,
Such as,
bA penny saved is a penny earned,
cPenny-wise and pound-foolish,
dA fool and his money are soon parted,
eA bird in the hand is worth two in the bush,
fMake hay while the sun shines,
gA stitch in time saves nine,
hThere’s no fool like an old fool,
iThere’s more than one way to skin a cat,
jYou can’t teach an old dog new tricks,
kAn apple a day keeps the doctor away,
lEarly to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,
mYou can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink,
nDon’t throw the baby out with the bathwater,
If wishes were horses, obeggars would ride,
pThose who forget their history are doomed to repeat the qcourse,
rClothes make the man,
sOnce burned, twice shy,
tMoney is the root of all evil,
uAll work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me,
vAnother day, another dollar,
wCheaters never win,
xMoney can’t buy happiness,
yHaste makes waste,
zTime waits for no man,
aaIdle hands are the devil’s plaything,
bbIt takes one to know one,
ccBoys will be boys,
ddStuff a cold and starve a fever,
eeIt’s the early bird that gets the worm.
ffA friend in need is a friend indeed,
ggDon’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today,
hhSpare the rod and spoil the child,
iiDon’t cry over spilt milk,
jjBuild a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door,
kkBirds of a feather flock together,
Don’t believe anything you read, and only half of what you see,
llIf it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,
mmIt is more blessed to give than to receive,
Which is probably the best one,
If you can manage to live up to it.
