Harry disappears for forty daysThe followers hear interesting news
Chapter 38
And so it happened that one night in early spring,
All of the followers decided to go to Atlantic City,
Which was a ghetto on the iNew Jersey shore,
Where there were quite a lot of sleazy nightclubs,
On the boardwalk,
By the ocean,
Which made the followers think it might be an amusing place to visit,
For a change.
And they borrowed one of Harry’s Silver Clouds,
And rode through an awful jwasteland all the way to Atlantic City,
Where by accident they ran into an uncle of one of the followers,
Who was an kItalian,
And very hospitable to his nephew’s friends,
Which maybe explains why all the followers got pretty drunk,
And ate and drank lots of great Italian consumables,
Until the conversation finally turned to Harry,
Who the uncle had heard of,
For some reason,
And was terribly lsympathetic when he heard how badly the followers were being treated,
Especially when he heard about how Harry had disappeared,
aWhile visiting the docks.
After more drinks, the uncle started talking about South America,
And how certain btwo-bit upstart competitors were trying to upstage him,
cVia South America,
dAnd how very unfortunate that would be for such competitors,
Especially if they tried anything in Philadelphia,
Where he owned all the judges,
Which was all very interesting news to the followers,
And maybe explains why they stayed all night with the efriendly uncle,
And let his bodyguards drive them back to Philadelphia in the morning,
So that he could borrow Harry’s fSilver Cloud,
For a day or two.
