They needed you to do the dirty work,
2And they counted on cyou to be there for them, ready and waiting when some maniac in a foreign country went ape and killed some Americans.
3They needed you to go take care of it,
4Because they knew that you had the guts,
5And that you wouldn’t quit,
6dEver,
7eNot from the first moment that one of you lost a buddy, and had to wipe his brains off your face.
8From that moment on, you were the strong right arm of America,
9fAnd they drafted you to save the union from the confederacy,
10gAnd they drafted you to teach the Kaiser a lesson,
11hAnd they drafted you to jam Hitler’s blitzkrieg down his throat and Hirohito’s divine wind up his backside,
12And iyou did it,
13The way you always do it,
14jAs fast and deadly as possible,
15So that you could come right back to Kensington and get kdrunk.
16lAnd then they drafted you again to go do it for the whole world in Korea,
17But they forgot why they needed you,
18mAnd they wanted you to fight their way,
19nAnd do it slow and easy and controlled,
20oWhich was a joke,
21pAnd they just barely got away with it,
22Or that’s what they thought, anyway, because they never asked you for your opinion about it,
23And so they tried it again,
24qIn a place called Vietnam,
25rAnd this time they just hung you out to dry,
26And let you die in the jungle without a baseball bat to even the score.
