KENSINGTONIANS Chapter 21

Working in gangsThe strong right arm of America
Chapter 21
They used to know that they needed you,
2rBecause it was their job to build things,
3sWhile you carried the bricks on the days you were sober,
4tAnd it was their job to run things,
5uWhile you ran errands if you weren’t in jail,
6vAnd it was their job to keep things clean and in good repair,
7wWhile you drove the garbage trucks unless your hand was busted again.
8xAnd so, while you complained and got drunk and smashed things that got in your way, it was their job to keep everything more or less under control,
9yWhich they were pretty good at,
10zBecause they always seemed to know how to keep from losing their temper and going psycho when some little thing didn’t work out just like they wanted,
11And all in all, they were pretty good at finding compromises that prevented the apotato from getting hot enough to explode,
12Time after time after time,
13bUntil the day things didn’t work out,
14And they needed you.
