FROGS
OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE BOOK OF GLORY
The Maginot Line disappears
Chapter 36
Fortunately for the Frog intellectuals, bWorld War I was succeeded almost immediately by a terrible cworldwide ddepression,
2fWhich made the Germans even madder about the eTreaty of Versailles,
3And didn’t help the government of France much either,
4Since, being out of both Louis’s and Napoleons, they had been compelled to try democracy again,
5Meaning “rule by enervated fools,”
6gWith the result that they drank a great deal more wine than they should have,
7hAnd read far too many books written by Frog intellectuals,
8And got into so many quarrels with each other that they almost didn’t notice when Germany started grabbing countries in eastern Europe.
