Chapter 29
But no one should get the idea that all French literature was simply funny.
There were also a lot of Frog writers who wrote stories that were very very sad,
And funny only by accident,
Such as oVictor Hugo, who wrote incredibly long books made up of incredibly long sentences,
Completely in pFrench,
About sad, unfortunate people,
Called ‘Les Misérables,’
q‘Le Hunchback of Notre Dame,’
And other things.
And there was rGustave Flaubert, who wrote about sMadame Bovary,
tWho was not nice,
For many many pages.
And there was also uBalzac, who wrote about Frog characters who had so little happen to them that their stories went on for volumes.
Not to mention aÉmile Zola.
