But some of you are hard cases,

7hAnd there are always volunteers for the most hazardous assignments,
8iAnd there are always fools who can’t seem to learn that the best life is a long life,
9jSurrounded by plenty of things,
10kPurchased with the absolute minimum of work and sacrifice,
11And for you, there is no help in the Way of Harry,
12lBecause you will be blamed no matter what you do.
13If you fight and lose, you will get blamed for losing.
14mIf you fight and win, you will get blamed for committing genocide against the helpless Others.
15If you fight bravely and earn decorations for valor, you will be dismissed as a ajingoistic fool who probably can’t be trusted to walk the streets.
16If you ever bmake a stand on a point of principle, your own generals will do you in.
17And the absolute best you can hope for is that there will come a time when they really really need you,
18cSay, to get even with somebody they’ve targeted for blame,
19In which case, they will wave their flags,

23As long as nobody asks them to go with you, or make any other kind of personal sacrifice,
24Because dying in wars is a job for stupid jingoistic fools,
