BASIC is much better than English
Chapter 4
I suspect that the baccountants are probably having a tough time with the math here,
Since I know from experience that anything with cGreek letters in it is confusing to accountants,
And so I’d like to restate this basic problem one more way, as follows:
Let x be the Future Value in dollars of all the hope saved up over 5,000 periods,
Assuming a quite generous discount rate of 10 percent,
And assuming that the initial period is the year 3000 B.C.,
Just to keep things even.
Using the dstandard equation, we find that, FV=A⋅1−(1+r)−rr⋅(1+r)tFV = A \cdot \frac{1 - (1+r)^{-r}}{r} \cdot (1+r)^{t}
Where r stands for the rate,
And t stands for the number of periods,
And A stands for the average annual increment of hope generated.
When we compute the actual numbers,
We discover that FV = 0,
Which means that x = 0,
eResulting in a dollar value of $0.00 worth of saved-up hope for Mankind.
