DAVE Chapter 2

The camera laughs merrily
Chapter 2
Dave thought it would be great if he could make a spectacular motion picture about the cgreat land in which he was born,
And so he did.
It turned out to be a big hit,
Although a couple of people got pretty upset about the scene where the dKu Klux Klan rides to the rescue against the evil negroes,
Which made Dave unhappy and discouraged,
To the point where he thought about going into another line of business,
Maybe haberdashery,
Until his ecamera suddenly turned itself on and began to speak,
Saying, “You can’t quit now, Dave.
“This will all blow over, trust me, I know what I’m talking about.”
Whereupon Dave pointed out that cameras can’t talk,
Which made the camera laugh merrily,
And then reply, “You don’t know the half of it. Motion pictures will become more spectacular and important than you’ve ever dared to hope, and the day will come when everyone knows that you were the first great genius to produce a blockbuster.”
And as Dave smiled in disbelief, the camera went on, saying, “Here, let me tell you about the future,
“And maybe even show it to you,
“Because you picked the right place to be in,
“At exactly the right time.”
