When all the poor people run away from Britain and Europe to America,
2Seeking dequality of opportunity,
3Capitalism will blossom in America like a new religion,
4And the New World will cut down its forests to build huge numbers of stinking industrial cities,
5eNot to mention slums,
6Where all the poor people who come looking for equal opportunity will get to live,
7fAnd work no more than twenty or thirty hours a day in factories that aren’t owned by lords or gentlemen,
8But by common people just like themselves,
9Except that they have more money,
10And except that some of them are not common people at all,
11gBut Scots,
12Which just goes to show you,
13When it comes to money,
14It’s pretty hard to keep Scots out of the picture,
15No matter how much you might want to.
